Most coaches acknowledge the importance of their clients' emotions, however, this does not mean coaches are comfortable working there. This session will bring ease to working with emotions in your coaching. In this interactive presentation, Dan will share an interpretation of emotions that allows us to see their logic and practicality. He will show that every culture and era in history developed an interpretation of emotions that made sense to them. You'll discover that many of the things you learned about emotions growing up are either inaccurate or not useful if you want to work with emotions as a life skill and tool. Dan will show you how to deconstruct emotions into their essential parts and how to determine if something is or is not an emotion. He will distinguish moods for emotions and share why the difference is critical to understand when coaching. Finally, Dan will coach a volunteer from the audience to demonstrate his Emotions-Centered Coaching model and how leveraging emotions speeds up and deepens the coaching conversation.

The learning outcomes for this session will be

1. A new, practical, logical interpretation of emotions

2. How to listen for emotions

3. How to link emotions to the client's story

4. The Emotions-Centered Coaching model

5. How to integrate emotions into attendees' current coaching model
