This session is approved for 0.75 CCE Units in Core Competencies and 0.75 CCE Units in Resource Development.

"Have you or your clients ever shied away from ""difficult"" or ""challenging"" conversations? Have you experienced environments where organizations consistently avoided such discussions, or if they occurred, were handled poorly, resulting in immediate and evident negative impacts on relationships, productivity, teamwork, and organizational culture?

This interactive session dives deeper into the most common “difficult” conversations for coaches and their clients, why they tend to be seen as difficult, and the predictable outcomes created when we have these well, have them poorly, or avoid them altogether.

Participants will share with each other their real-life experiences in the areas of difficult or challenging conversations, and learn new distinctions and tools that will enable them to be effective to convene and conduct these important conversations. The number of important conversations which have historically been “missing” or avoided will decrease dramatically.
Participants will acquire a new clarity about the importance of these conversations for coaching conversations, effective leadership, relationship-building, productivity and talent development.

They will have an opportunity to practice these conversations, as well as to obtain feedback from peers related to the effectiveness of the conversation and strategies for ongoing improvement of this fundamental communication competency."

Introduce distinctions in Language (speech acts and different types of conversations) Participants
will have interactive discussions to practice and apply distinctions

Identity and Integrity; Coaching Beyond Technique

"At some point in a coaches life, the concept of identity comes into question. In the words of the philosopher and poet John O'Donahue, ""At any time you can ask yourself: At which threshold am I now standing? At this time in my life, what am I leaving? Where am I about to enter? What is preventing me from crossing my next threshold? What gift would enable me to do it?"".

If we are to elevate ourselves personally and professionally the journey of coaching mastery is fraught with such ambiguous moments where we encounter these thresholds that can challenge our head and heart. It is no longer about a credential or a badge, it becomes a voyage of identity, the fulling or the taming of a longing. What do you choose each time?

The focus is on the evolving nexus of coaching and the inner landscape of you and me as coaches, habit formation and reframing the ideas we have on expertise. The session will integrate elements of
visualization, lecturette, discussion and visual aids.
