How can coaches support clients in transforming difficult past experiences into sources of strength and growth? In this interactive session, we will explore how to engage in meaningful coaching conversations that shift a client’s perspective on their past—from one of pain or limitation to one of insight, resilience, and empowerment.

Rather than seeing past challenges as barriers, we will explore how meaningful inquiry can help clients recognize their inner strengths and resourcefulness. Using carefully crafted, thought-provoking questions, coaches can foster greater self-awareness, unlock self-efficacy, and guide clients toward a more hopeful, action-oriented future.

This process can be seen as a form of “resilience mapping”—identifying a client’s success templates by uncovering past moments of strength, adaptability, and growth. Participants will actively experiment with key coaching questions in interactive exercises, gaining practical tools to integrate into their own coaching practice.

Join us to discover how to help clients move from feeling stuck to embracing their past as a resource for transformation—and take your coaching conversations to a new level.

This session is approved for 0.75 CCE units in Core Competencies and 0.25 units in Resource Development

In this immersive session you will experience the transformative power of group coaching supervision. At each table, an experienced and accredited coaching supervisor will guide a live supervision session, creating a space for deep reflection, professional growth, and ethical practice. Through a dynamic blend of structured discussion and real-time supervision, participants will gain insights that enhance their coaching effectiveness while aligning with the newly launched ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies.

This event is designed for coaches who are committed to continuous development and keen to experience firsthand how supervision fosters clarity, resilience, and impact. Context is a critical yet often invisible aspect of coaching. John will share a Contextual Influences framework and apply it in practice with a live demo. Do not miss this!

John has been curious about the influence of context since moving to Singapore in 2018 – realising that a western approach to leadership and coaching wasn’t a perfect fit for coaching in the Asian context. Something I’m sure all of you are aware of! The framework explores context through 4 lens'
1. Cultural,
2. Structural,
3. Social and
4. Personal,
delving into 12 subgroups including ethnicity, family history, identity and macro-economic to name a few.

Past participants have found the framework easy to understand and simple to apply to their coaching sessions, reporting increased impact in the session.

    John Raymond

    CEO of 1point5 Solutions

John Raymond founded 1point5 Solutions to help leaders adopt more sustainable ways of working. With almost 30 years of coaching experience, he often hears one common concern from his coachees: “The way I’m working isn’t sustainable.” For John, this means not only maintaining performance and wellbeing but also working in a way that respects the planet's resources.

As well as a focus on sustainability, John is also on researching adapting coaching to the Asian context to improve its impact. While coaching, essentially a Western practice, is effective in Asia, he believes it needs to be adjusted to better connect with local cultures. He is exploring this further through his doctoral research at Oxford Brookes University.

John holds a Master of Coaching Psychology, contributes as an ICF volunteer (recently supporting the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies), and works as a Coach Supervisor and Mentor Coach. He also leads regular sessions to help experienced coaches advance their practice.

John's mantra continues to be "Every decision is a sustainability decision"
